TAsten, TAnz & TAgtool – Chen Mao Shuen
August 1st 2026, 7:30 pm
Part of the series Pioneers of Contemporary Composition
For over a decade, TAsten, TAnz & TAgtool has explored contemporary composition through the interplay of sound, movement, and live visual systems.
The trio Albert Mühlböck (piano), Bea von Schrader (dance), and Die.Puntigam (tagtool / visual systems) creates intermedial interpretations of selected composers, bringing musical structure, bodily presence, and visual translation into equal dialogue.
Previous editions have focused on composers such as John Cage, Terry Riley, Tan Dun, Sofia Gubaidulina, Josef Matthias Hauer, Iannis Xenakis, Joan Tower, György Ligeti, Luigi Nono and Arvo Pärt.
The 13th edition is dedicated to the Taiwanese composer Chen Mao Shuen. Chen Mao Shuen lived and worked in Austria for many years. 2026 marks what would have been his 90th birthday – an occasion to revisit and recontextualise his work in a contemporary performative setting.
An intensive research and rehearsal phase in July 2026 forms the basis of the performance, translating Chen Mao Shuen’s compositional thinking into a present-day interplay of music, dance, and visual systems.
The performance on August 1st 2026 presents a condensed public outcome of this process – concert, performance, and intermedial interpretation in one.
